ENRICHING LOCAL FESTIVALS AS VESSELS OF CULTURE

DOT 10 through the Tourism Industry Skills Program (TISP) conducted a Festival Enhancement Seminar-Workshop for the tourism officers, musical directors, choreographers, and artistic directors of the Province of Misamis Occidental for the celebration of the Pas'ungko S'g MisOcc Festival this year.

The seminar workshop started with a presentation on the History of the Pas'ungko S'g MisOcc Festival followed by a discussion on the Pagsaulog sa Misamis Occidental 2022. An exploration on the Subanen culture, dance, and music was also tackled to better equip the participants on the foundations of the Pas'ungko S'g MisOcc. The workshop also included a demo of the five basic steps of the Subanen culture.
“We are implementing our Festival Enhancement Seminar-Workshop to ensure that we put in the right context in the staging of our festivals and continue to guard them as vessels of our local culture and preserve their integrity,” Mr. Decius Esmedalla, the OIC Chief Tourism Operations Officer of DOT 10 said as he lead the discussion on Festival Management.
The Pas'ungko S'g MisOcc is one of the most-anticipated festivals of Misamis Occidental that is centered on the Subanen tribe, one of the biggest indigenous groups in the province. It is celebrated every mid-November in Oroquieta City where contingents from the cities and municipalities of Misamis Occidental celebrate Subanen culture and heritage through dances, music, and the narration of their tribe’s history.
